Finally, something I can be proud to post, haha. Today's painting is of a woman named Kimbra, an Australian singer I discovered this week. Pretty good music and she caught my eye so I decided to paint her. If you look up "Cameo Lover" by her, you'll see where it came from. Went with a different style than usual and I learned a hell of a lot. It was going to be a caricature but I ended up getting less exaggerated as I went, but I started liking where it was going. So it's not really caricature, but it's not quite a portrait either, so I dont know what to call it. Either way, I enjoyed working on it and I hope you enjoy looking at it.

Here's my initial digital sketch of the band members. The placement will probably change, since I dont think I'm digging the setup right now. My vision is a monochromatic color scheme, with maybe some faint skin tones. I'll experiment. With the hazy background and sketchy bodies, I noticed how it looks like a poorly scanned drawing, heh. Whether you like the band or not, I still hope this will look cool enough. Maybe I'll do more band caricatures later on.

Here's a recent digital sketch of Novak, for Caricaturama. It's still in a very loose stage. I feel like I'm restricting myself too much to conventional proportions and ideas. I think the next one I will try to be a bit more creative.

I also worked at an event in Indianapolis over the weekend and I only got a picture of one sketch.

The drawing started off rough, but finished not shabby.

Starting to use Chartpak markers instead of the traditional Markettes. They're starting to grow on me. Admittedly the hair is a bit lazy, but it was just a demo.

Alright, so you know how it starts. A nice quiet day in "Small Town, Suburbia", when sudden calamity tries to destroy us all. Fortunately, movies and video games prepared you for any unoriginal disasters old man Fate can think of. Just grab your Judgment Day Fanny Pack and have yourself a grand ol' time, right?

No, of course not. Nobody believes that crap on the TV. So when Destiny decides to toss it ALL at us. What are you going to do? You hop scotched you're way over those earthquakes, beat a trail past them man-eating sunflowers, and even ran from a zombie horde. You've survived, right? Wrong! Suddenly, fiery tentacles burst from the pond next to the swings you were enjoying at the neighborhood playground and drags you into the depths. Luckily, this isn't about your short-lived struggle against the forces of doom.

This is about the adventures of real survivors. A trifecta in particular. Steve and his little sister, Chloe, are your average humans desensitized by modern media and culture. They are accompanied by a strange man named Felix, who suffers from too many psychological disorders, Badassery being one to name.

They'll have to live through it all and then some. Only < insert Divine Being here > knows who or what they'll meet and have to run from. Because I definitely don't. So sit back and relax, this is When the World Goes to Shi*

WWGS Main Character Designs

Hey folks, so over this past weekend I was in San Antonio, TX for a little thing called Cripple Con. It's an uncensored, ridiculous, and crazy caricature convention. Here are some of the pieces I did while there...

This is of Beau. One of the main coordinators of the event. In Prismacolor markers and some watercolor on bristol smooth paper.

Chihiro, one of the visitors from Japan. Not my favorite drawing, done quickly at the end of the deadline. Her art was beautiful. I'll have pictures posted on my personal blog.

Dexter. Cool guy. First drawing actually. Didnt realize I was going to be using the prismacolors as much as I did.

Now there's a reason why I havent uploaded much personal stuff. I'm working on a personal project right now. It's a comic. In the midst of writing the script for the first issue. Right now my plan is to only make the first issue, prolly around 25 pages. I dont really know what I'd do with it then, but i just want to open up my mind a bit. get out of this laziness. since the season is coming to a close, I'll get some more animation done too. ya know, actually do something with my life hopefully. One, I'm starting a new WIP. I probably won't post another progress until it's done.

Two, I've realized I want to do more animals and have devised an exercise for it. Feel free to try it for yourself.

Pick an animal of some sort and do a couple different drawings of it.

1. just try drawing the animal from a picture.

2. draw it as a cartoon. something you'd see on a CN or Nick cartoon.

3. As a personified character. like you'd see in a motion picture.

4. Animalistic/ mutated. whether its a genetically enhanced or hybrid or whatever, just make it look cool.

I guess it might help understand the animal and give it some style and character.

(you dont have to use those particular styles, but I thought this would give it some range.)

New little illustration I've been working on slowly. Kind of an inside joke, but I dont think the context is exactly necessary. Hopefully you get a bit of a chuckle out of it though.

The title comes from one of the many reactions a friend of mine has when she plays with the bunny.

“It’s a boring day today,” said tiger. “Maybe I’ll go for a walk. Maybe I’ll find something interesting.”
Tiger strolled through meadows, climbed over hills, and even swam through pools of water. Tiger kept roaming until he noticed the lower sun. If I begin back now, I’ll be home by nightfall, he thought. “Maybe I’ll grab something to eat on the way.” A small grin appeared.
Tiger turned around and not 2 steps did he begin to hear some squeaking. He looked around and decided which direction the peeps were coming from. He was low and quiet, he was on a hunt. Up ahead was a small patch of empty dirt surrounded by tall grass. As he closed in, his steps were slower and quieter. He remained in the heavy brush as he spied on two mice in the middle of the plot of earth.
One of the small vermin was standing on a small rock, sporting a mighty fine nut shell as a crown. The other stood under the rather proud little mouse with a look and pose of annoyance. They appeared to be arguing. As Tiger eyed the two little vermin, he decided to listen to their little squabble. Maybe I'll have a listen. This could be dinner and a show.
“I said bow down, peasant,” commanded the high and mighty mouse.
“And I said I’m not a peasant. That little hat doesn’t make you the king of anything,” argued the peasant mouse.
“Yeah it does! I was bestowed this crown by a mystical moon bean,” claimed the mouse king.
“Beans aren’t living things and are far from mystical.”
“Who said it was a bean?”
“You just…”
“It was a mystical moon snake,” he said excitedly.
“A snake would eat y…”
“Silence,” interrupted the king. “It was a mystical moon bean and it was a mystical moon snake.”
The other mouse stood confused and annoyed, rubbing his head very hard. Trying to rub this stupidity out of his head. “What are you talking about,” asked the mouse, hating himself for asking.
The mouse with the nut shell on his head hopped down from the rock. He put his little arm around the other’s shoulders and directed toward the sky.
“It was between night and dawn,” began the mouse.
Tiger quietly laid his body on the ground. This is certainly an interesting something, he thought. Maybe I will have a listen. Maybe this could be a good story. Tiger laid his head on his paws and listened carefully.
The mouse continued, “That hour when light from the sun is beginning to break a silhouette on the horizon. There was something calling to me. I didn’t know what it was but it just wouldn’t let me be. I left you and the family in search of this strange phenomenon. It felt like my instincts had taken me over. I didn’t know where I was going, but I was going there.”
“Wait, you didn’t have the hat this morn…”
" Shh!," crowned mouse interrupted.
He continued, “I arrived to this very spot. There was a large bean placed perfectly on this very rock. Very cautiously and very slowly, I inspected this very strange bean. Once I decided it was safe, I figured it was for the taking. You know me, all about the safety of the family. Just in case it was poisoned, I decided to taste it before taking it back. I lifted the bean with both fore paws. I almost had it in my mouth when it began glowing as bright as the moon and jumped out of my arms. It fell to the ground and began to shake and crack.”
At this point, Tiger was hooked on the story. He was listening intently and acted as if hypnotized. He heard a slight rustle in the distant shrubbery. He paid no mind to it, though; thinking it was merely the wind.
The mouse king continued.
“The bean finally split into two halves. Sparkling dust exploded out of the divided bean. In the blinding dust a figure formed. It was long and slender, the figure became a snake. It was glowing as white as the moon bean. So bright that it was almost a white silhouette. Of course being as brave and fearless as I am…”
“Yeah, brave and fearless, huh?”
He continued without interruption “I demanded in my strong and mighty voice, ‘what are you?’ It looked to me, ‘I am a moon snake spirit,’ it said in a beautiful female voice.
‘Then what were you doing in that bean,’ I asked.
‘I have resided inside that bean awaiting the true king of all things…”
The other mouse pushed the king away. “Alright, that’s it,” he said very irritated. “The ‘king of all things’ part is just going too far.”
The two mice continued to argue.
This little interruption snapped Tiger out of the story back into the tall grasses and hard dirt. He shook his head and looked around. “Hey, the story was not finished,” he whispered to himself. He heard another small rustle in the tall grass. This time the noise was closer behind the mice. He saw something slithering in the grass. Tiger stood to his four paws and quietly walked around to the slithering thing, remaining camouflaged in the bushes.
The mice, too involved in their quarrel, didn’t realize anything was closing in. The snake raised its head high above the mice. It savored this moment before attacking, choosing which mouse to devour.
“Yeah? Well you’re a…”
The snake let out a loud hiss, interrupting the peasant mouse’s insult.
The two mice looked at each other in terror. They both turned their heads slowly. Fear and panic took the mice over and froze their bodies in place.
“Dinner,” hissed the hungry creature. The snake lashed its head towards the mice. The mice closed their eyes as hard as they could.
They heard flaying and hissing in the space in front of them. The mouse with no crown slowly opened his eyes and saw the snake lashing vigorously at him, but not reaching him. He grabbed the king mouse and quickly darted behind the rock. The snake seemed stuck, unable to move towards them.
Tiger stepped out into the patch of land. His paw on the snake’s body was holding it in place. The snake tried to slither its way to an escape but to no avail. Tiger clenched his claws around the slender neck of the snake. He nonchalantly threw the slithery thing far off into the distant grass. The snake landed hard on the ground and quickly scurried away, mumbling profanity as he distanced himself.
" So what happened next?" inquired tiger.
The mice peeked over the stone.
The king popped on top and stood proudly.
" Once I was deemed king, I knew many would try to take my crown."
The mouse continued and Tiger listened to the entire convoluted and ridiculous story. Then he ate them.

Ok, that last line was kind of a joke.
